Facebook.

Is continuing to innovate with video and messaging services to capture the younger market. Messenger is now the 2nd most popular iOS app of all time, right behind… Facebook.

Facebook has added the video messaging service to Messenger.

“All of us on the Messenger team aspire to build the best communication product that will eventually enable billions of people to stay connected with the people they care about the most, and have an experience that’s as good as a face-to-face conversation. Today, we’re very excited to take a big step in that direction by launching video calling in 18 countries. Give it a try by surprising someone special to you, and as always, don’t forget to let us know how we can make it even better for you!”

They have created a new service called “M”

It’s a little like Siri where you can ask questions and be guided.

“M is a personal digital assistant inside of Messenger that completes tasks and finds information on your behalf. It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people. Unlike other AI-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and way more. This is early in the journey to build M into an at-scale service. But it’s an exciting step towards enabling people on Messenger to get things done across a variety of things, so they can get more time to focus on what’s important in their lives.”

Creative uses for Periscope? or Meercat?

Periscope is a social media tool, that enables individuals to broadcast a live video feed on the internet. A company has devised an ingenious way to use it to raise awareness for Alpacas and good on them http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-08/alpacas-on-periscope-social-meida-agriculture/6754114 and we know the ABC morning show enjoys the uses of Periscope. Hey, perhaps the Royal Show could/should consider for next year… no one really wants their thriller ride video to remain forever do they but those cute baby animals – how gorgeous. It would be an internet sensation!

Here are 7 Ways a Business Could Capture Audience Interest via Periscope

  1. Impromptu question and answers session (remember Periscope has a chat component)
  2. Live group support – like meetings
  3. Announcements of new products
  4. Regular updates to humanise your brand
  5. Allow behind the scene views of actual “work” and activity
  6. Live events, such as webinars
  7. Candid insider views of a products progress.
