Is this another quick opportunity for Facebook to experiment and get data about human behaviour? It’s a good one! Story source: The Atlantic “Were all those Rainbow Profile Photos Another Facebook Experiment?

From other news…

Facebook is not the only technology company that showed its support for marriage equality. Apple has been supporting benefits that covers same sex partners since 1993. Google, Amazon and Microsoft also filed friend of the court papers in a U.S. Supreme Court case involving the Defense of Marriage Act, according to CNET. Those companies insisted that the lack of federal recognition of same sex marriages negatively affects company morale and makes tax benefits complicated.

LinkedIn Professionals Take Note!

Profiles, let’s get back to basics (high unemployment means we need to make sure you are up to date!)

Top 10 things to do (or not do).

  1. Profile: clear head shot
  2. Profile: clear headline statement (use keywords)
  3. Profile: add contact details
  4. Bio: Use keywords.
  5. Bio: Be clear. Focus on what YOU want and promote that.
  6. Not so obvious: include 8 years on employment information (or 3 jobs)
  7. Not so obvious: say what the company does before you say what you do
  8. Not so obvious: use high level statements about your role – no dot pointed roles and responsibilities that make you scroll on for pages.
  9. Networking: Use the groups wisely and sparingly – don’t make it look like that’s all you do? That said, get involved.
  10. Networking: Read a persons bio before offering the deal of their life (in the work they already do). Don’t email an offer before establishing a relationship or connection with them.

Bonus tips:

Social: Congratulate, comment, share appropriately and be friendly – but professional.

Publish: On topic, relevant, interesting. Best content being FAQ’s FACTS and TIPS

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 27 June 2011

Of course, my first passion (hobby) is social media. When I was asked to participate in the Healthy Heart Challenge by the Heart Foundation SA as one of their champions, there were many aspects that excited me. Firstly, I know commitment motivates me. If I say I am going to do something, I will. The only thing that suffers in this respect – is social!! Media doesn’t. Hmmmm… so of course I had to somehow integrate the two. I devised the #hearttime hashtag, the foursquare checkin and the Storify news feed. All have helped me learn more and this excites me (read … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 27 June 2011

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 9 June 2011

OK, I’m a norty girl today – havent walked or eaten anything healthy. Even worried about the vitamins that sent me into cyberspace last night. Obviously need a big kick up the bum!!! Reading the card on my desk “Live in the moment and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering” had me have an energy packed day though!! Computer problems were sorted, client twitter account issues were sorted, a few contract applications were sent off and I contributed to an idea the Heart Foundation SA are considering. So, not all wasted!! And certainly not a bad … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 9 June 2011

Our world is forever changing

Don’t sit still… ever. My friend Dana has been asking me questions about connecting her blog to her Facebook etc through the Networked Blogs service all week and to be frank I had forgotten a lot of what it could do and couldn’t. I also wanted to disengage my personal blog from my business Facebook wall. So, I went to investigate. As always, the world hadn’t stood still and it was quite different. Very different. But very good. You will be pleased to know I have realigned all my blogs to their correct pages and have also added my Twitter … Continue reading Our world is forever changing

Hard lessons in life… and facebook

Its a week since I last blogged here but it’s been a big week. I’ve written proposals, fulfilled contracts, continued moving house, lost access to my Facebook account and generally had a busy time of it. So, do please be patient!! On Tuesday 8th June, my personal profile (Charlie Helen Robinson) was suspended by Facebook until they worked out an anomaly with an “unusual payment activity” that occurred. Unfortunately it meant everything associated with this personal profile’s email address (charlie@charliedesign.net.au) had been suspended as well. This included all Facebook Pages created by my personal profile that were as sole trader … Continue reading Hard lessons in life… and facebook
