Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 10/11/12 August 2011 – Final Tip

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”  Hippocrates   My wish is that you all continue your healthy lifestyles, health isn’t a fad it’s our greatest asset! The above quote says it all, eat quality food. Mass produced food lacks vitals nutrients. Go organic or at least purchase direct from the growers whom you can ask what has and hasn’t been sprayed. It’s also value for money to purchase quality foods, consider that the average household throws out 40% of all food that is bought. Money which can be put towards REAL food. Shop at farmers markets, … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 10/11/12 August 2011 – Final Tip

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 6 August

This blog article is dedicated to the beautiful and inspiring Kelly who has been supporting me through my challenge. Thankyou hun for all your wisdom and tips. #hearttime Tip of the day Give smoking the flick. With today’s media there isn’t a smoker alive who dosn’t understand that smoking will cause serious damage to your health. With each cigarette depleting up to 25mg of vitamin c, those soft and squishy arteries end up hardening from the lack of vitamin C. It’s a habit and like all habits can be challenging to quit. Fortunately there are therapies offered such as the “Quit … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 6 August

An insight into my last few days. Love, luck, life… DeadReds sold out and was relaxing. Since starting DeadReds in 2007 I havent stopped. Every event, thing or reason has been because of me. That’s great but holding this event in Geraldton was kinda selfishly nice because it was relaxing. I dont think they even expected me to make a speech!! hahahaa errr yeah right? I did of course – off the cuff.   I’m sure over the years there have been people who thought I ignored them (at DeadRed events), or didnt talk to them, but from the moment the event commences … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 1/2 August 2011

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 26-31 July 2011

conversations with people make us learn, experience and grow. The past six days have been consumed by a road trip to Geraldton via Perth and back. Exhausting, emotional, but exciting with eight of us travelling. We were together and not at various times, some dropping in, some dropping out… there was nothing startling about the trip aside from people just having a fun time away. as John said “you only live once. enjoy”. A lazy hazy crazy day… preparing for a busy week! This week I start my new short-term writing contract and go off to Geraldton WA for DeadReds (number two). The trip will be with a group of DeadRed friends/members (Paul, Dana, Maria, Belinda, John, Martin and Sandra!!) and this time round I have been sponsored and so am providing a lunch time seminar for a group of business people in the town. It continually … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 24 July 2011

The solidness of wood, the fluidness of water, the warmth of a hand, the chill of winter, the carefreeness of sailing, the fluffiness of a cloud, the grit of sand, welcomes the life of Charlie. The horizon is visible, the road is available, the journey has begun. We have vision. We have strength. We have warmth. We have. And we are eternally appreciative. #hearttime Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 23 July 2011

I know what things are good: friendship and work and conversation.  These I shall have.  ~Rupert Brooke These past few days have been hectic. I have seen the new Harry Potter Movie, drunk coffee, held meetings, seen friends, worked, signed contracts, attended Ian Berry’s Book Launch, drunk wine, checked out very old wine, walked the length of Semaphore Beach, drunk coffee, eaten… written blogs and worked more. Not everything has been successful – but that’s the story of life. Ian challenged us to consider the changes we wanted in life and to grab our dreams. I am grateful and appreciative of every … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 20/21 July 2011

#hearttime was spent walking for about 30/40 minutes to reach “The Parade” in Norwood and go to the movies. School holidays and so to get the spring chicken out of the house, the lure was the movies (second time she’d seen Harry Potter but it was her suggestion) and go for a walk. We did well. Did we walk home? No, saved … picked up and taken out to dinner at Fasta Pasta. Not the healthiest dine out option, but at least mine had the salad option 🙂 Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 18/19 July 2011

Well, week one of the school holidays is almost over and as we head into the weekend and then another week of “what are we doing today?“, Kelly Hamilton from Body, Life Balance (article below) has shared some tips with us about their food intake to at least keep that side sane… Sage advice. My daughters have grown up in a house where the lollies, chocolates and sweets are treats and whilst they have never “not” had them, they are not readily available in the house. Their school backs up the philosophies of healthy eating and this is appreciated. Of … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 14 July 2011

When you pour your heart and soul into something, results flow. Today’s Culinary Chicks Luncheon, by Sue Redman was held at the Rising Sun. A lovely quaint hotel in the backstreets of Kensington (with an open fire). The owner Tom (below with Sue) obviously enjoys his cooking and this shows as well. It’s was a delicious lunch!! All the chicks loved it. We get a special deal through Sue and score the venue as we go… everything from presentation, to service, to the facilities (toilets) are graded. Sue provides a written report back after the luncheon. The results speak for … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 13 July 2011

Research is good for my soul. It keeps my brain ticking. I also like strategies… so my new one (in social media land) is to have “tuesday trawlings: what inspiring readings we’ve stumbled over this week?”. So, guess what, here are mine: http://www.pearltrees.com/ << a new service I’m exploring… http://www.fastcompany.com/1765928/foursquare-shifts-from-location-to-event-check-ins << ‎foursquare moves into event check-in territory which follows on from an interesting article I read from Brian Solis about Foursquare and how it is monitoring and shaping trends by analysing what we do… http://www.bronzebodiesnorwood.com.au/products.html << is here because I’m checking and analysing the google analytics for this website, which these day … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 12 July 2011

School Holidays. They beat me hands down. They have already walked the dog, run around the house screaming and exhausted me – and this is Day One. Haha. So, we toddled off to the local cafe for lunch. A 20 minute walk. The walk back, they disappeared into a park, then ran and caught us up… and now after a quick movie at home, have gone back out for another park visit. No need to worry about their hearts!! I’m dreaming of a white christmas… one that’s filled with sand for miles… blue skies and stars at night and something that brings back the smiles. Of course, it’s winter here and that’s why I’m dreaming: aaaaaah… sorry, have been very slack (again). Unfortunately this is all I write about. I need someone to motivate me!! ME? Of course I’ve been busy, exceptionally so. Just haven’t walked for a few days. So, me bad. My promise to you today (as it’s Saturday) is to go for a walk this afternoon after my trip to the markets this morning. Even if it … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 7/8/9 July 2011

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 5/6 July 2011

Another cold day. I have just completed my second “official” update regards the Healthy Heart Challenge (for the Heart Foundation), but in the meantime, here is my first (check bottom of the page):  http://www.eiseverywhere.com/ehome/22691/CharlieHelenRobinson/ And whilst my (second update) comments were all about the cold and not being able to get out of bed (or the house) to do my walking, I have been taking the “healthy options” when possible. So, my food choices are more considered (tick) and if there are lifts and stairs next to each other, I take the stairs (tick). Every little bit counts and helps … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 5/6 July 2011

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 4 July 2011

It’s cold. It’s hailing. It’s blah. How do we keep motivating ourselves to exercise, or get out amongst it, in this weather? Of course, I have to work this through and come up with an answer because I want to keep going. I have my gym membership and could go there but to be frank I generally stop because I find it tedious and boring. We have talked about Zumba classes, so I can look into that.. and I have always been a dancer at heart so this could be the way to go. There must be an answer… more … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 4 July 2011

What is your fancy? Green Tea anyone… or a peppermint? I’m off to make one… Tip of the day: Make green tea your preferred beverage. Green tea has an increasing list of benefits including those for the heart. High in anti-oxidants it can help protect again Alzheimer’s, high cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, stimulates the immune and can even help with blood sugar levels. As always go for quality not quantity when choosing your green tea, with a preference towards organic (they only way to guarantee its not irradiated). Welcome officially to Winter and the second half of the year. I thought I would take this moment to pause and accept that I live in a city full of contradictions, diversity and elements of change. I guess that is one constant. The ying yang of the world. What do I mean by this? Well, that has me stumbling!! But, I do know we are surrounded by good and bad, light and dark, cold and wet. No wait, that should be hot and wet (eeek, what am I thinking?) For the 1st July the sun shone. For the 2nd July the … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 1/2 July 2011 (/take 2)

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 29 June 2011

My blog post for #hearttime 27 spoke of my passion for social media… but of course my main income is derived from communication strategies and project managing website developments, engagement programs, media plans, corporate events, and even sponsorship arrangements. And all strategies need an “edge”. That winning ticket. It doesnt matter whether it be a campaign internally to a company or experienced by a small number of people, the edge is still needed. It is needed to “engage“. So, each day when I commit to my Healthy Heart Challenge… I have also committed to writing my blog. And so I … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 29 June 2011

Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 27 June 2011

Of course, my first passion (hobby) is social media. When I was asked to participate in the Healthy Heart Challenge by the Heart Foundation SA as one of their champions, there were many aspects that excited me. Firstly, I know commitment motivates me. If I say I am going to do something, I will. The only thing that suffers in this respect – is social!! Media doesn’t. Hmmmm… so of course I had to somehow integrate the two. I devised the #hearttime hashtag, the foursquare checkin and the Storify news feed. All have helped me learn more and this excites me (read … Continue reading Healthy Heart Challenge #hearttime 27 June 2011

The best cure ever for an exhausted body is good food… and the beach. Well, it works for me anyway!! Here we have Barramundi with a Dukkah crust, on a bed of potato and salad. sigh. delightful!! #lifedoesntgetbetterthanthis Of course going back to the Grange Kiosk is just one of those homecoming beacon soothing things that makes me feel good. I grew up down the road and the kisok was my first job out of school. I do love the beach. Have always said I want to live there. The 24th; the day we celebrated and raised money for the Heart Foundation SA!! It was the tenth celebration event for the DeadRed Wine Group. And what a night we had planned. Rush rush rush rush rush rush rush… the past two days have been a blur. From collecting my new mobile fone – my desire, to writing social media strategies for clients and website content for me, to attending the “Love you Wong time” ASMF Famous Faces Luncheon at the Hilton Adelaide and getting a bit silly, to eye appointments, doctors appointments (blood pressure normal), and checking my book proof, to sorting photographers, security firms and sponsors for friday night to meetings with potential seminar presenters (joint function) and send off celebrations with friends at the pub.
